Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
TMS psychiatry is a form of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), which is an FDA-approved, noninvasive treatment for depression and OCD. TMS has gained attention as an alternative to pharmacological treatments and psychotherapy in treating these mental health conditions due to its safety profile and potential effectiveness. During a TMS procedure, a series of short magnetic pulses are applied directly to the scalp at specific locations associated with areas involved in major depression and OCD. These pulses stimulate nerve cells located deep within the brain that can affect mood.
